I arrived this evening in Lyon to join a cruise tomorrow down the Rhône to Arles visiting Burgundy and Provence. My hotel is in the Presqu'île of Lyon which is literally "almost an island" in French. This is the central part of the city of Lyon, France extending from the foot of the Croix-Rousse hill in the north to the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône rivers in the south. Lyon's Presqu'île has a history stretching back to the Middle Ages. It was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with other districts in Lyon as a testimony to Lyon's long history as an important European city and its architecture.
Once I was settled in my hotel I went for a walk around the Presqu'île of Lyon and down to the river until it started getting dark.
