Today we docked in Corfu
Town. I have visited many countries in
the world but this is the first time I’ve been to Greece.
Our first view when docking in Corfu was of a Venetian fortress covering the promontory which initially contained the old town of Corfu. The fortress was built to protect the town from invaders. It dates back to the Byzantine period and is separated from the urban settlements by a deep protective canal.
We were taken to Kanoni, a suburb of Corfu Town, as there are good views over there over the town. Kanoni is Greek for cannon.
Our next stop was at the Mon Repos Palace which has been turned into the Paleopolis museum. Mon Repos Palace is where Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born.
We then drove to Corfu town, another site on the UNESCO world heritage list, for a short walking tour and to do some shopping.
After dinner we went up to the observation deck for an after dinner drink to watch the sunset.
