Today we visited Alberobello, a UNESCO world heritage site, to see the Trulli houses with their whitewashed walls and grey pointed roofs. Visiting Alberobello has been on my wish list for some time after having to cancel a trip to Puglia some years ago at short notice.
After spending a few hours in Alberobello we went for lunch to a masseria which is a fortified farmhouse found in the Puglia region. I must admit that the wine flowed freely with all the local food we were given to try.
Outside the masseria was a cactus with the biggest flowers I’ve ever seen on a cactus.
We had a scenic drive back to the ship.
The Apulian fields were often filled with poppies which we have seen many of on our travels.
