I started the day taking a few photos around our hotel which is right on one of the canals.
Ruth and I then went on a complimentary trip by water taxi to the glass blowing factory Fornace Estevan Rosetto in Murano. We were given a demonstration of glass blowing before being shown round the main showroom of exquisite but very expensive glass ornaments. Unfortunately we were not able to take photos in the showroom. Ruth and I made a couple of small purchases in the more reasonably priced shop downstairs.
We shared a water taxi back to St Mark’s Square with a
very friendly group of Americans and I took some photos en route. Again, getting on and off the water taxis was
very challenging. In fact the water taxi driver had to move to another morring to enable me to get back on dry land.
Lunch was followed by a shopping expedition before returning
to the hotel to offload. We then went
for ice-cream sundaes at the Café Lavena in St Mark's Square which was
established in 1750. Live music was being
played at at the Café Lavena while we enjoyed our ice-creams with St Mark's
Basilica and the Doge's Palace in the background.
In the evening we headed up to the hotel's rooftop
terrace bar but it was closing as we got there.
At least I managed to get a couple of rooftop pictures of Venice.
Ruth and I ended our last night in Venice with a cocktail or two in the hotel bar.
